Abstract: | Purpose - Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a popular and significant technology that has strongly impacted multiple industries through various services such as automation. However, the AI’s success depends on its strong and effective implementation of AI systems, requiring managers to have positive perceptions and acceptance towards implementing and operating AI, and this can help the Indonesian manufacturing industry to grow. Therefore, this research aims to identify and discuss any negative or positive perceptions that managers had about implementing AI in manufacturing companies in the Jabodetabek area, find factors affecting trust and confidence in implementing AI, and build recommendations to encourage trust and confidence to use AI. Methodology - The research conducted qualitative in-depth interviews with 10 managers from manufacturing companies near the Jabodetabek area in Indonesia who know AI to gain their perspectives on how managers feel about AI and why they are either interested or uninterested in implementing AI in their business activities. Findings - The results showed that almost all managers hold strong interests, acceptance, and support for using AI to provide convenience and balance of work in their business activities, despite most having no experience with using AI in the business. However, almost all managers felt skeptical and distrustful of using AI for decision-making within the company because of the serious damage and risks of AI making decisions. Originality/value - This research can be useful in assessing managers’ readiness to use AI in manufacturing companies and states factors that influence the encouragement of managers to use AI in business activities. |
