Abstract: i3L is a life science higher education and research institute in Jakarta, Indonesia. Their The pharmacy department in the School for Life Sciences provides research project opportunities for students. This project aims to do phytochemical characterization of Marchantia palace, Pogonatum neesii, and Litsea oppositifolia extracts as a preliminary study for two bigger projects that aims to investigate the anti-cancer and anti-ageing properties of these extracts. To achieve this aim, phytochemical screening, assay, and LC-MS analysis was conducted. The phytochemical screening and assay show the presence of flavonoids in Marchantia paleacea and Litsea oppositifolia extract, phenolic content in all three extracts, and a small concentration of alkaloids in all extracts. No extract showed the presence of saponins. Out of the three quantified functional groups, phenolics were found to be the most prominent secondary metabolite in all three extracts. LC-MS analysis revealed the presence of eugenol in Litsea oppositifolia extract. Further analysis using standards or NMR analysis could be done to further elucidate the components contained in the extracts.
