Abstract: Body odor is the unpleasant smell brought on by the mixture of sweat and bacteria on the skin, such as Corynebacterium and Staphylococcus species. Typically, sweat is an odorless bodily fluid, however, as bacteria grow on the skin and break down these secretions, the by-products may have a pungent, unpleasant smell. Deodorant is an axilla cosmetic containing antibacterial agents that are used in decreasing bacterial growth for enhancing the pleasantness of body odor. An antimicrobial deodorant product is needed to inhibit the development and activity of bacteria that can degrade the sweat secretion. Therefore, the antimicrobial properties of Deodorant X were evaluated through clinical trials on Indonesian Males ages 26-40 years old. From the microbial study, it was concluded that deodorant X is able to inhibit bacterial growth, even though, at certain time points, statistical results did not show significant differences. In addition, the bacteria present in both treated and untreated axillary areas of the subject were observed using Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA) selective media for further verifying the bacteria that contributes to the body odor formation. Then, the isolated bacteria was identified using the Gram Staining method. Probably resulting in Staphylococcus bacteria as a purple stained bacteria or Gram-positive bacteria.
